SAFETY TECHNICIAN

Safety Technician

The Safety Technician will report to the Safety Manager and will have administrative responsibilities for all aspects of safety management at our Plywood facility located in Emporia, VA. Responsibilities will include :

  • Provide support for the mills contractor safety management program
  • Supports the safety department in effectively communicating regulatory and technical knowledge to operations staff to assist with managing day-to-day compliance activities.
  • Provide support for CSO (Compliance System Owner) teams.
  • Participates on and provides support to the mill safety committee/team
  • Provides support in the implementation and tracking of training to meet facility needs
  • Assists with risk assessments to proactively identify and evaluate safety hazards as well as assists with the mitigation of identified hazards.
  • Assists with tracking completed risk assessments and key control audits and corrective actions.

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Safety/Health or related field or High school/GED with at least 3 years of health and safety experience or related field (such as emergency management services, fire service, or construction safety). This experience should include identifying & mitigating hazards, incident investigation, training, etc.
  • Knowledge of OSHA compliance
  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to include but not limited to creating charts, formatting cells/formulas, creating presentations, training, and reports
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new processes and procedures
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) in group presentations/training, individual interactions, and written documentation

Preferred Qualification

BS Degree in Safety or related field

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
