Nurse
The RN uses the nursing process and evidence-based practice to collaborate with the assigned provider team in developing the patient-driven care plan. The RN is responsible and accountable for the provision of direct patient care and for the delivery of quality nursing care to a diverse veteran patient population. The RN possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting, which will then enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning. Duties include, but not limited to the following:
Utilizes the nursing process to provide care to patients. Completes triage assessments, health risk assessments/screening; initiates follow-up as needed. Assesses patient's learning needs; develops and implements a plan to meet needs and instructs patients and families in self-care and treatment measures. Applies collaborative team approach in identifying, analyzing and resolving patient care problems. Participates in educational activities to improve clinical knowledge and skills, maintain expertise and enhance role performance in area of practice. Identifies learning needs of self and others based on professional standards and initiates a plan to meet those needs. Assesses patient care needs, workload and skill level of personnel and assigns responsibilities as appropriate to meet identified needs. Collaborates with others as a means of effectively utilizing the group process to identify, analyze, and resolve problems affecting patient care. Consults with other health care providers to meet patient care needs and plan proper follow-up care. Educates colleagues and/or students and serves as a preceptor and/or mentor. Participates in teaching activities for supportive personnel in learning activities and skill enhancement. Initiates/participates in unit/program and/or Service quality improvement activities that result in improved outcomes. Identifies the process and outcome of a specific improvement that has resulted from performance improvement activities in the work area assigned. Work Schedule:

OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The physical requirement of this position includes lifting, prolonged standing, frequent bending, and stooping, walking, reaching and repetitive motion. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing, keyboarding, reading and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes-fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes-noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness and hazardous materials.
